Ubud, the spiritual heart of Bali

By M. Jansse and I. van Oord

For centuries, the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali is found in Ubud. The powerful energy that you find there makes Ubud also the perfect place for a yoga retreat, a detox treatment, a creative course or another form of reflection or development. Monique Jansse went for Happinez to Ubud to find the best, finest and most special locations.

ONEWORLD retreats
When Canadian-born Claude and his Javanese business partner Iyan were looking for a new place for their yoga retreats, they came across a complex that is part of the residence of the prince of Ubud. A chance they didn’t let go. The retreat center is build against a hill and has a view upon the rice fields. Every two weeks you can join a 6-day yoga retreat, including high quality Ayurvedic treatments. These treatments can also be booked separately from the yoga retreat. My favorite (all over Ubud!) is the ‘Chakra Dhara’, a two ½ hour massage with warm oil containing sandalwood and ylang ylang and others which works on all your chakras. Claude and Iyan also own an Ayurvedic day spa in Ubud (Bali Botanica Day Spa), where you can get similar treatments.
