What is the retreat ‘Escape the World’?
‘Escape the World’ is a six days and five night’s opportunity to de-stress and leave the day to day life behind. The distinctive experiences leading to peaceful and relaxing moments have transformed some of our guest’s lifestyle.
Yoga and meditation classes practiced in luxuriant environment is the focus of the retreat while high quality spa treatments, holistic rituals experiences, healthy meals and cultural discoveries makes this retreat unique event.
Our mission is to please our guest’s five senses and assist them in our best possible way to live in the present moments during the retreat.
Who is behind ‘Escape the World’?
The ‘Escape the World’ retreat was designed and launched in year 2003 by Canadian born Claude Chouinard. For the past 16 years, Claude has created journeys and led groups on a myriad of roads less travelled throughout South East and Central Asia. Bali became his permanent home in year 2000.

Partnerships with Iyan Yaspriyana in 2001 led to a new and magical lifestyle for both men. Both Yaspriyana and Chouinard are fascinated by sharing their knowledge and assist others to find an alternative holistic path.

Who is the ‘Escape the World’ retreat for? Are
there any circumstances under which you cannot participate?
The ‘Escape the World’ retreat is designed for anyone desiring to touch base with the self, practice daily meditation and soft yoga while enjoying a unique and relaxing Balinese vacation. The yoga classes are for beginners and intermediates.
What are the other retreats at ONEWORLD retreats.com?
Beside the ‘Escape the World’ retreat you will find many other retreats on our site. These retreats are led by well-known guest retreat leaders from all over the world. Every retreat has its own character and is designed by the guest retreat leaders themselves. Do you need experience in any specific fields for the retreat?
For the retreat ‘Escape the World’ some experience in yoga is definitely a plus, but not necessary. This program is enjoyed by beginners and intermediate yogis.

What is and what isn’t included in the price of a retreat?
In every description of a retreat (see our retreats page) you can find what is included in the price. With most of the retreats the accommodation, the yoga, meditation and other lessons, some meals, ground transportation, some excursions, some spa treatments and the Government tax and service is included. Not inclusive is the flight to Bali, travel insurance, Tax on Arrival, Departure tax, laundry service and personal expenses.
Are there any extra activities besides the retreat that you
can participate in?
In every retreat there is some free time to do extra activities or to relax. ONEWORLD retreats Kumara has two swimming pools and the surroundings of the center are well worth an exploration. Many retreats offer add-ons or optional activities.
ONEWORLD retreats Kumara has its own spa offering high quality treatments including our renowned Ayurvedic Chakra Dhara Massage. A complete menu of spa treatments is available for guests to add treatments to their retreat.
In Ubud are many local artists and teachers who are happy to share their personal experiences and studios with you. There are workshops in arts such as batik, painting, pottery making and silver smiting. Ask our receptionist for further details.

Various kinds of dance performances are held all around Ubud and its outskirts.
Visit the Ubud Monkey Forest
The Ubud Monkey Forest is a nature reserve and temple complex in Ubud, Bali. It houses approximately 340 Macaque monkeys. The forest contains at least 115 different species of trees and contains the Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal temple as well as a "Holy Spring" bathing temple and another temple used for cremation ceremonies.
Visit Gunung Kawi templeGunung Kawi is an 11th century temple complex in Tampaksiring, North East of Ubud in Bali, Indonesia. It is located on the river Pakrisan. The complex comprises 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) carved into the cliff face. They stand in 7m-high sheltered niches cut into the sheer cliff face. These monuments are thought to be dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty and his favourite queens. A stone paved path leads down into the valley of the sacred river Pakerisan, with stunning rice field views on the way
Meet a traditional healer
During or after the retreat, guests can meet a well known Balinese healer.
Meet well-known traditional Balinese healer Tjokorda Gede Rai and get a healing session. Tjokorda Gede Rai is world renown and considered one of the most important healers on the island of Bali. He has been written about in numerous articles, medical journals, newspapers and books. His “clients” have included headline celebrities and internationally-renown authors and medical experts, to local Balinese from remote parts of the Island. He has trained many healers worldwide, and his teaching comes from traditional Balinese lontars (sacred texts) passed down from generation to generation.
Are the retreats held all year round?
The ‘Escape the World’ retreat is offered all year round, the retreat last six days and five nights. It always starts on a Sunday and ends on a Friday.
The other retreats led by guest retreat leaders and are mostly held once a year. An up-to-date schedule of all our retreats can be found on our ongoing retreats page.
Do the retreats always take place?
ONEWORLD retreats will do its utmost to maintain its standard of never cancelling a retreat, but if for some unforeseen reasons ONEWORLD retreats were to ever cancel a retreat, guests are welcome to move retreat dates or their payment would be refunded in full. Announcement of cancellation would be done at least 21 days prior to the retreat. This applies for the Escape the World retreat only.
Is it possible to stay extra nights prior or after the retreat?
Yes, that’s possible, but it depends on availability. For participants of our retreats we have a special room rate to extend their stay at ONEWORLD retreats Kumara. For room rates, please check at the bottom of your preferred retreat program on our retreats page.
How can I pay the retreat?
We ask for a deposit of US$300 to secure your place in the retreat of your choice. The deposit can be made by Visa or Mastercard via PayPal. You will be receiving a link in the confirmation email, please follow the instructions to make your deposit. It is easy and very safe. You may also pay your deposit by bank money transfer.
Further payment is made on the first day of the retreat by cash, Visa or MasterCard. If you pay by foreign currency cash, the exchange rate will be calculated on the day of payment.
Retreats organized by our guest retreat leaders might have other regulations for this . Some retreat leaders ask for full payment prior to arrival. This can then be done by PayPal or bank transfer.
For cancellations made more than 90 days prior to retreat, your deposit will be credited to any other Escape the World retreat within 24 months from your original booking.
For cancellation made between 90 and 31 days prior to the retreat, 75% of the deposit will be credited towards any other Escape the World retreats within 24 months from your original booking.
For cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the retreat your deposit is not refunded.
The balance of your payment is due upon arrival at the retreat.
There are no refunds for arriving late or leaving early. There are no partial refunds for any services, not used while the retreat is going.

ONEWORLD retreats is not responsible for any of the consumer’s expenses incurred in preparation for any retreat such as airlines tickets, loss of work, and/or any other costs associated with the retreat. It is up to the consumer to purchase cancellation policy insurances.

Although our majority of guests are female, we have also have male guests participating in our retreats between 20 and 60 from around the planet!
Do you need experience in any specific field for the retreat?
For the ‘Escape the World’ retreat some experience in yoga is definitely a plus, but not necessary. For other retreats there can be some experience needed. Please see our retreats page for more information about every program.
What is the minimum and maximum amount of participants?
For Escape the World there is no minimum and the maximum is 17 participants. Retreats organized by our guest retreat leaders might have other regulations for this. Please check this on our retreats page.
Is there specific information that you need to know from
the participants up front?
Yes, if you see our registration form, this will answer this question.
Do visitors need to bring anything special?
Once the reservation is confirmed we send an information email to our guests.
It is necessary to bring your own yoga clothing. There are clothes designed especially for yoga, stretchy top and pants. However, one can practice yoga without these. A T-shirt and pair of shorts are fine for yoga. If the retreat includes a blessing ceremony we suggest that you take along a white shirt with sleeves.
You may wish to bring along your own yoga mat; yet, we have some mats if you wish to borrow them. We also have a yoga shop selling an assortment of eco-friendly TPE mats and Natural Rubber mats at the Kumara gift shop, as well as yoga clothing and supplies to assist you in your yoga practice!
We recommend taking a pair of comfortable walking shoes or sandals with straps for the program's walk.
Remember that Bali has a tropical climate; therefore, there is no need to bring much warm clothing, but perhaps one warm sweater for the morning to the volcano.
Do not forget your swimming suit and camera!

If you have clothing, shoes, hats, or whatever you think could be useful for people that are not so fortunate, do not hesitate to take it a long as a donation for the village people. It is not necessary, yet it would certainly be appreciated.
On which airport do I need to arrive?
The airport in Bali is Denpasar (DPS)
Do I need a visa?
A Tourist Visa is available on arrival at the airport in Bali for most countries. You pay US$25 for a 30 days visa. If you wish to stay in Indonesia for 60 days, you can apply for your 60-day tourist visa in your own country or extend your 30-day visa here.
How much cash should I bring?
It depends if you will be paying you tuition fee by cash, and it depends on how much you want to shop and how much longer you are staying in Bali.

What kind of food is served?
During the retreats a myriad of meals are served, some Indonesian meals, some western style meals. We don’t serve pork and beef. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available as well.
Do you use organic products?
We do our best to offer organic products, yet not all is organic in Ubud!
Are there vegetarian options?
Many of the meals offered at the retreat are vegetarian, yet some offer fish and chicken.
For the vegetarians or vegans we prepare special meals. On the registration form, we ask participants about their eating habits preference.
How is the climate in Bali?
In Bali, there are two seasons, the dry and the wet season. The wet season begins in November and last till March/April, and then it is the dry season with occasional rain.
Very rarely do we have rain lasting all day, the rain usually comes in the afternoon or evening.
What is the easiest way to reach ONEWORLD retreats Kumara?
You must first fly to Denpasar, Bali. Transportation to/from the airport or south Bali is mostly inclusive in the journey. We offer a complimentary shuttle bus to the center of Ubud.
Is it possible to stay at Kumara without doing a retreat
Yes, that is possible; please see the information about room rates. Unfortunately when a retreat is held it is not possible to participate in any lessons. Also the use of our spa and dining room can be limited. Please ask our reservation staff for up-to-date information.
What is the local currency?
The local currency is Indonesian Rupiah. Use our currency converter for today's accurate rates.
If I want to change money, what place would you recommend?
In Ubud most money changers offers the same rate.
Is there an ATM-machine nearby?
There are many ATM machine in Ubud, which is 1,4 kilometer from the resort.
What if I’m travelling alone?
We often have guests coming alone on our retreats. If you want, we could pair alone guests with a room mate.
