General Information
The Joyful Yoga Retreat III is all about exploring joy. The joy of yoga, the joy of moving freely, the joy of being alive. This all-inclusive retreat on the magical island of Bali, will be a joy for the 6 senses! Daily Kripalu yoga classes, 3 delicious meals per day, luxurious spa treatment and ample time for relaxation and contemplation. The traditional Balinese purification ceremony at the Tirta Empul temple, a walk through the magical rice fields and a snorkel adventure in the turquoise waters of the idylic island of Nusa Lembongan will give you the opportunity to not only connect with yourself, but also with the spirit of the Island of Gods.
During this retreat we will be practicing Kripalu Yoga, which is a compassionate practice that will teach you to observe your body and mind without judgment. Classes range from gentle to vigorous, yet everyone is invited to join. Open to all yoga levels.
Also, we will look at the basics of Ayurveda (the sister science of yoga) and use that in the yoga practice. You will be able to determine what your Dosha (or constitution type) is, what type of nutrition is best for you, and which kind of yoga practice will bring you the most joy.
Reconnective Healing and The Reconnection sessions will be offered optionally.
Marije E. Paternotte
trained and studied at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts,where she received her certification as a Kripalu Yoga Teacher. Additionally, she is certified by the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica to teach Let Your Yoga Dance®, and she has completed a YogaEd. program for teaching yoga to children. Also, Marije holds a certification from the Trauma Center in Boston to teach Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and she is one of the first certified instructors in the world to teach Reconnective Yoga. Furthermore, she has studied for two years at School of Life in Amsterdam; an integral training for consciousness, healing and reading. Through this program, she has learned healing and therapeutic skills, as well as conscious communication. With 10 years of yoga experience, Marije is registered with Yoga Alliance. ONEWORLD retreats at Kumara
THE PLACE
The ten bedroom Holistic Retreat is located 1.5 km from the heart of Ubud in Bali. Bordered to the west by a small creek, the eco-friendly retreat is surrounded by jungle and rice fields. The retreat centre offers 2 swimming pools, dining room, Spa and a 100 sq. meter Yoga studio open to nature. Each room is air conditioned, has its own terrace with garden, mini-bar, bathtub and shower. Comfortable yet unpretentious. For our guests' ultimate serenity, everyone above the age of 14 is welcome at the retreat.
THE YOGA
During this retreat Marije Paternotte teaches Kripalu Yoga.
The word “Kripalu” means “compassion”. The focus of Kripalu Yoga is on developing non-judgmental awareness or so-called witness consciousness. This is the ability to observe ourselves from an outside perspective and witness what we are thinking, feeling or saying without judging it. Noticing what is happening, but not labeling it as “good” or “bad”. Classes begin with meditation, warm-up movements and breath awareness to prepare you for yoga postures. The heart of each class is a sequence of postures that stretch, strenghten and balance your body. Each class ends with deep relaxation.
Classes can range from gentle to vigorous, depending on the time of day and the students’ level of experience.
THE MEALS
Healthy, organic meals are provided, which are prepared by our well trained chefs. All dietary requirements are catered for.
SPA TREATMENTS
During your retreat you will enjoy a Spa Mandi Treatment. This 17th century Javanese royal treatment will make you feel on top of the world! Mandi lulur is the luxurious pre-wedding ritual of Indonesian women. This treatment moisturizes and restores the natural PH balance of your skin. It begins with a traditional body massage, followed by a body scrub to exfoliate dead cells using a mixture of turmeric, sandalwood and rice powder. Then, yoghurt is applied to refresh and open the pores of your skin. The treatment ends with a fragrant blossom bath.

Purification ceremony at Tirta Empul Temple
After dinner, we will be taking you to Tirta Empul, Bali's most sacred spring pools for a purification ritual. This mystical place is visited by Balinese from all over the island, a local mangku (priest) will carry out the prayers. An exceptional way to begin the retreat.

10:00 Snorkelling Adventure to Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan is a small island near Bali, which can be reached from Sanur by a 40 minute-boat ride. Leaving Ubud after breakfast we reach Lembongan by noon, just in time for a snorkelling adventure followed by lunch on the beach. After lunch, a second snorkelling experience at a different place and we are back in Ubud by 18:00.
