Interview with Tammie

Q: How do you describe mindfulness in your retreat?

A: Mindfulness is simple, in fact it’s the simplest thing imaginable: being in the present moment, just focusing on one thing at time in a non-judgmental, curious and open manner. So why then do we find it so hard? Learning to quieten your mind can be a challenge for sure, but the benefits are numerous and like anything, it just takes a bit of practice... Continue reading

The Workshops

Soothe your Soul, Calm your Mind, and Relax your Body with 5 Days and Nights in tropical paradise.

Mindfulness refers to the practice of remembering to bring attention to present moment experience in a non-judgmental and open-minded manner. Mindfulness has been used for thousands of years in spiritual traditions and in the last 40 years practices similar to mindfulness have been used in a number of psychotherapies. In the last 15 years mindfulness practices have become increasingly popular in contemporary psychology and in the literature related to this contemporary use, mindfulness is considered as a meditation practice, a coping skill and a mode of being. Mindfulness can be learnt individually or within group settings and is not limited to any one particular mental, emotional or spiritual approach. During this retreat Mindfulness will be explored from both a Buddhist and psychological perspective, making it useful to people who live modern busy lives. Perfect for new or beginning practitioners.

This retreat provides you with the opportunity to find peace in a frantic world.

Mindfulness is a form of mental trainings. It is NOT:

  • a religion, although there may be a spiritual element to the practice.
  • about sitting cross-legged on the floor (but you can if you want to), chairs will be provided at every session.
  • about emptying your mind, it’s about tuning in and becoming more aware or “awake” to what is.
  • complicated, nor is it about success or failure. Every persons experience is unique to them and cannot be compared.

This retreat will provide you with the tools necessary to incorporate mindfulness into your everyday living.

How This Wellness Retreat May Benefit You:

  1. Quieten the mind and bring awareness to the way you think about life
  2. Explore and deepen your meditation practice
  3. Relax and refresh
  4. Deeply rest and rejuvenate
  5. Take peaceful time away from usual routine and surroundings
  6. Start to become a human ‘being’, instead of a human ‘doing’
  7. Embark on a journey of self-discovery
  8. Develop ways of introducing mindfulness into your everyday routine
  9. Set your priorities thereby changing or reinforcing your outlook on life
  10. Find a community of like-minded people

This retreat is designed to support busy women to slow down and connect with themselves, in beautiful locations, in a fun and supportive way, whilst in the company of other like-minded women.

The Meals

All your meals are included and most are served at the resort.

Our chefs are experienced and eager to offer you the freshest and most tasteful and healthy meals. From our "table d'hôte" you may choose to eat vegetarian or non vegetarian meals. Just like at a friend's place, there are no menus, yet we make sure to know what you like and dislike!

Keeping Your body in Mind
This after dinner session uses body scan meditation to help explore the difference between thinking about sensation and experiencing it. Many of us spend so much time living ‘in our heads’ that we almost forget about the world experienced directly through our senses. The body scan meditation helps to train your mind so you can focus your attention directly on your bodily sensations without judging or analysing what you find. This helps you to see, ever more clearly, when the mind has begun to wander away by itself, so that you gradually learn to ‘taste’ the difference between the ‘thinking mind’ and the ‘sensing mind’. Body scan can also be used to create an experience of deep relaxation. Lovely to do just before bed.

Day 3

Sunrise yoga overlooking Batur Volcano
05:00 Departure for Gunung Batur – Bali’s most spectacular volcano

Spa Treatment or healer visit and/or free time

16:00 - 17:30 Afternoon workshop

Mindful Movement
Use the practice of mindful walking and being in your body to help the mind to continue the process of re-integrating with the body. You’ll gradually learn that the body is exquisitely sensitive to emerging unsettling feelings when you are becoming too goal focussed – and this allows you to see how tense, angry or unhappy you become when things don’t turn out the way you want. It’s an early warning system of profound power and significance that allows you to head off problems before they gain unstoppable momentum.

17:30 Preparation for day of silence tomorrow and trip to Tirta Empul
19:00 Dinner

Day 4

07:30 Group Meditation – start of day of silence

18:30 - 21:30 Purification Ritual at Tirta Empul
After dinner, we will be taking you to Tirta Empul, Bali’s most sacred spring pools for a purification ritual. This mystical place is visited by Balinese from all over the island, a local mangku (priest) will carry out the prayers.

Day 5

07:00 Optional Morning Yoga (additional cost)
08:00 Breakfast
09:30 - 11:00 Morning workshop

Re-Balancing our Lives
Explore the close connection between our daily routines, behaviour and mood. When we are stressed and exhausted we often give up the things that ‘nourish’ us to make time for the more ‘pressing’ and ‘important’ things. Begin to use meditation to help you make skillful choices, so you can do more of the things that nourish you, and limit the downside of the those things that drain and deplete your inner resources. This will help you to enter a virtuous cycle that leads to greater creativity, resilience and the ability to enjoy life spontaneously as it is, rather than how you wish it to be.

Guided rice fields walk
11:30 Morning activity - Walking the rice fields of Bali
This morning, we will take you on a gentle nature walk, first through a small village (Sakti) and then we will follow the rice field’s path all the way to Sari Organic where a delicious lunch will be served.

Spa Treatment or healer visit and/or free time

16:00 - 17:30 Afternoon workshop

Loving Kindness and Compassion
Learn about the Tibetan concept of ‘Tonglen’, or ‘giving and taking’. Find out how loving kindness can be used to manage difficult situations and relationships. Anxiety, stresses and worries will still come, but they are more likely to melt way as you learn to meet them with kindness.

19:00 Closing Dinner – Bridges Restaurant – Ubud (additional cost)

Day 6

07:00 Optional Morning Yoga (additional cost)
08:00 Morning Meditation
09:00 Substantial Farewell Breakfast
Balinese offering class
10:00 - 11:30 Balinese Offering Class
The ritual of presenting offerings to the Gods is an integral part of the daily life for every Balinese. This interesting class is to help you understand the construction of the simplest offering and to explain the meaning behind the ritual. Following the offering class, you will take these offerings to the resort temple and offer them to the Balinese Gods. Allow the process to leave you feeling cleansed and purified ready to join the world again!
