Travelling the Majestic Himalayas

IMG_6121Reaching Mount Triund, one of the many summits of the Himalayas, was an awesome and memorable feeling. Even more so for me as I had been trekking the 2,872m mountain over four days with a knee condition and risk of high blood pressure. Once I reached the top I said to myself, “Iyan, you made it – you made another dream come true!”

This journey was made even more special by these three things:

First, Jan Green, our amazing yoga teacher. She is a lovely teacher who gave yoga, chanting and meditation sessions during the whole journey – in New Delhi, on the rooftop of our Dharamshala accommodation, practically anywhere during our trek. Everything was possible with her.

Nature was a total highlight. There was a snowstorm on our first night on the summit. The snow melted the morning after, making it possible for us to explore the surroundings during the day. Seeing animals roaming around I became closer to them. And I discovered some of the most beautiful sceneries I have ever seen. I took a deep breath and felt so grateful.

And finally, the Dharamshala monastery, home of the Dalai Lama. We unfortunately did not get to meet him, but his presence was almost tangible. On the last day of our stay, I walked around the precinct during my morning meditation. I never got tired from walking but instead, there was this serene feeling in my heart. With every step I took, the feeling grew deeper and the tiredness of the trek was gone.

I have loved trekking since I was a young boy scout. Now wherever I go, I enjoy walking, discovering new places on foot.

The Alps are next on my list, hopefully next year. I am grateful and thankful to having the opportunity to travel.
